Vivenda dos Palhacos is a restored 1929 Portuguese family home in Costa Vaddo, Majorda, run by Charlotte and Simon Hayward — of the Haywards 5000 family — as a small, communal guesthouse rather than a conventional hotel. Dinner is a shared, home-cooked affair around one table, built around Chef John Grascias's local fish and meat dishes, and the property's resident dogs tend to join guests on the veranda. Rooms are scattered across the main house, a converted garage and an older rear building, and no two are alike — the Konnagar room, the master, has a cast-iron bathtub salvaged from the Royal Bombay Yacht Club. It's a short walk to Majorda's quiet beach and surrounding paddy fields.
