Itanagar is a stopover more than a destination — most travellers pass through en route to Ziro, Tawang or the Assam border — and Donyi Polo International is the newer, better-kept of the city's Donyi Polo-branded hotels; don't confuse it with the older, government-run Hotel Donyi Polo Ashok across town, which has aged considerably. It sits on Gompa Road near the State Museum, a five-km run to the city centre, in a 50-room, three-floor block with five room categories from a 340 sq ft Elite Room up to a 650 sq ft Grand Suite with city views. Rooms run to modern business-hotel standard — bidets, charging points, lockable storage — well ahead of what else is available in the capital. The in-house restaurant serves Assamese and Indian food into the evening. It's a competent one- or two-night base, not a resort experience, and works best for travellers using Itanagar's small Hollongi airport as a gateway.
