Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort

Village Laitkynsew, Sohra (Cherrapunji)

  • Mountain View
  • Family
  • Secluded

This is the original resort in the Sohra area, built on a cliff edge in Laitkynsew village with rooms looking straight down a 3,000-foot valley toward the Bangladesh plains, waterfalls visible from the windows in the wetter months. It predates the newer, glossier properties in the area by years and still trades on that pioneer status rather than on spa menus or infinity pools. Rooms are split between AC and non-AC, Valley View and Superior Valley View being the ones worth paying up for — the difference is mainly window size and how much of the drop you can see. Rates include breakfast, evening tea, and a vegetarian dinner for two, which keeps the whole stay simple to budget. It's comfortable rather than deluxe: think reliable hot water and a good bed over turndown service. It suits families and first-time visitors to Sohra who want the valley view without paying resort prices, more than travellers after polish.
