Sohra sits about 54 km and roughly 90 minutes' drive south of Shillong, on the plateau edge that catches the world's heaviest recorded rainfall between June and September. Polo Orchid is the most built-out resort in the area, positioned on a hilltop with views over the Seven Sisters Falls and the valley dropping toward the Bangladesh plains. Rooms scale from a 150 sq ft Orchid Room up to a 1,955 sq ft Presidential Sky Pool Villa, with plunge pools built into several of the mid-tier and top categories — genuinely unusual for this part of Meghalaya. An infinity pool, a Tattva Spa outpost and three restaurants (cliffside Sohra House, open-air Sky Grill, poolside Cherra Poolside) give it more going on than any other property in Sohra. It's the closest thing the region has to a proper luxury resort, though outside monsoon the falls it overlooks can run thin, so check the season before booking for the view alone.
