Namdapha Jungle Camp
Miao, Changlang District, edge of Namdapha National Park
- Wildlife
- Secluded
Namdapha National Park, India's largest and one of its least visited, doesn't have anything resembling a luxury property nearby, and Namdapha Jungle Camp doesn't claim to be one — it's the best specialty lodging option in Miao, by a wide margin. The camp sits on the banks of the Noa Dihing river, about four hours from Dibrugarh airport, in cane-and-wood cottages that sleep up to three with attached bathrooms and both hot and cold water. There's no AC and no polished upgrade tier — what you're paying for is the location and the owner, Mr. Phoopla Singpoh, who has run the camp for years and arranges permits, guides and excursions into Namdapha's tiger and hoolock-gibbon habitat. Meals are simple, home-style, and taken by the river. This suits wildlife-focused travellers who've come specifically for the park and don't expect resort amenities — not a stop for anyone wanting spa time or dependable Wi-Fi.
