Set about two kilometres outside central Pahalgam in Laripora, far enough from the town's traffic to feel like a proper retreat but close enough for a ten-minute taxi back in. The resort leads with its spa programme more than any single architectural feature, and most rooms come with a balcony facing the surrounding mountains and greenery rather than the river. It's part of the wider Chinar hospitality group, which also runs houseboats on Dal Lake, so the standard of finish and service is a known quantity if you've stayed at their other properties. The in-house desk arranges treks, camping and wildlife safaris into the surrounding hills, useful if Pahalgam is your base for exploring the Aru or Betaab valleys rather than just passing through.
