Manuallaya sits at Chadiyari on the edge of Vashisht, the village above Manali known for its sulphur hot-spring baths and temple, and is close enough to Mall Road for an evening walk in but far enough to avoid Manali's worst traffic. The building mixes contemporary design with local wood and stonework rather than colonial pastiche, and its rooms and cottages are spread across lawns instead of stacked into a single block. The indoor, temperature-controlled pool and TVA Spa are the property's strongest cards, useful given how cold Manali gets from November through February. Kibber and D'Jong, its Tibetan and Chinese-leaning restaurant, is a change from the usual North Indian hotel menu. It works well for couples wanting spa time and for small weddings on the lawns. It is not the right pick for travellers who want to be walking distance from Old Manali's café scene, which sits across the river and up a separate hillside.
