Ananda occupies the former Viceregal Palace of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal, set in Sal forest above Narendra Nagar at roughly 3,000 feet, a 45-minute drive from Rishikesh and about an hour from Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport. The palace itself holds a handful of suites; most guests stay in newer wings built into the hillside, each room opening onto the Ganges valley below. Programs run on set tracks — Ayurveda, detox, yoga, weight management — with a doctor's consultation on arrival that can reroute your stay, including your meals, regardless of what you'd planned to eat. Spa treatments happen in a 25,000-square-foot building with open-air pavilions; the pool looks straight down the valley. This suits someone who wants structure and will actually follow a prescribed regimen for four or five nights, not a couple wanting a lie-in with cocktails by the pool — there's no bar culture here, and the distance from Rishikesh's ghats and markets is deliberate, not incidental.
