Run by Jungle Lodges & Resorts, Karnataka's state wildlife tourism arm, Bandipur Safari Lodge sits inside the national park itself with views toward Gopalaswamy Betta, the reserve's highest point at 1,455 metres. It's a deliberate throwback: 22 rooms named for the park's animals — the Gaur Room, the Elephant Room, the Tiger Room — plus cottages, with no air conditioning and no televisions, because the point is the forest sounds, not the amenities. Safaris go out at daybreak and again in the evening, mostly open-top jeeps with trained naturalists, and there's an occasional foot-safari option in a designated buffer zone that few private resorts nearby can offer. This is the choice for travellers who want the park experience straight rather than softened — expect clean, basic rooms, communal meals and evening wildlife slide shows rather than a spa menu. Dry season, February to May, gives the best sightings as animals cluster around remaining waterholes.
