Sangla is where the Hindustan-Tibet road (NH5) route toward Kinnaur and Spiti properly turns wild, and Banjara's camp sits on the banks of the Baspa River at 2,700m, surrounded by apple orchards and bare rock peaks. Accommodation is a mix of classic and 'luxury' Swiss cottage tents, stone-and-wood retreat rooms, and two river-facing huts — none of it five-star polish, all of it with attached bathrooms and hot water, which is more than most Kinnaur lodges offer. The road onward to Chitkul and into Spiti via Kinnaur is only reliably open from around May to October; winter closes much of the route with snow. Trout fishing, short treks and river crossings are organised from camp rather than left to guests to arrange independently. This suits travellers using Sangla as a base for the Kinnaur-Spiti circuit rather than a standalone luxury holiday; anyone wanting hotel-standard finishes or year-round access should look elsewhere.
