The Elgin Mount Pandim

Built in 1942 as a royal lodge and later folded into the Elgin group's heritage portfolio, Mount Pandim sits just below Pemayangtse Monastery at roughly 2,150m, on 15 acres of pine forest at the edge of Pelling. The draw is the sightline: on a clear day Kanchenjunga fills the view without another building in frame, and corner rooms on the upper floors catch both sunrise and sunset without needing to move. Some suites keep working fireplaces, useful given Pelling's nights turn cold well outside winter. The drive in from Bagdogra or NJP runs 5.5–6.5 hours depending on route and season; an Inner Line Permit is needed for Indian visitors, arranged online or at the Sikkim border checkpost. There's no city-hotel polish here — service is warm but unhurried, and the town itself is built around the monastery circuit rather than restaurants or nightlife. Suits travellers prioritising the mountain view and monastery walks; not for a short stopover crowd wanting quick turnaround.
