Netuk House, Gangtok

Tibet Road, central Gangtok, East Sikkim, 1,650m

  • Heritage
  • City Luxury
  • Mountain View

Netuk House belongs to the Denzongpa family, descended from Sikkimese nobility, and it still reads as a family home rather than a hotel — just ten rooms, on Tibet Road a short walk from MG Marg in central Gangtok at roughly 1,650m. Prayer flags mark the gate, and rooms carry period furniture and wall hangings depicting Sikkimese legend rather than generic hotel art; the old wing dates back decades and shows it, in a good way. There's no spa circuit or pool — the draw is scale, story and location: a fireplace lounge, a small bar, and a dining room serving Sikkimese food alongside Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes to a short guest list each night. Gangtok is 4.5–5.5 hours from Bagdogra or NJP by road, and Indian visitors need an Inner Line Permit, arranged online or at the Rangpo checkpost. Kanchenjunga shows itself on clear mornings, best October–December and March–April. Right for travellers wanting a genuine heritage stay inside town rather than resort infrastructure; wrong for anyone chasing a pool, a gym or hotel-scale anonymity.
