Glenburn has grown tea since 1859 and is still owned and run by the Kolkata-based Prakash family, now four generations in. The 750-hectare estate drops from around 900m near the factory toward the Rangeet river close to the Sikkim border, and guests stay in one of two bungalows rather than a hotel block: the Burra Bungalow, the original planter's house restored in 2001, and the Water Lily Bungalow, built in 2008 on the estate's edge with antique clawfoot tubs in every room. Tariffs are all-inclusive — meals, a factory tour, riverside picnics and estate walks are folded in, and there is no à la carte menu, just what's cooked that day. It sits off the main Darjeeling road, roughly 45 minutes and 16km from town, itself about three hours from Bagdogra. No wifi in the rooms, deliberately. Suits couples or small groups wanting an immersive, small-scale tea-estate stay; wrong for families wanting a pool, a kids' menu or hotel-style independence.
