Mayfair's Darjeeling property was once a summer retreat associated with the erstwhile royal family of Nepal, converted into a heritage resort spread over landscaped grounds near Raj Bhawan, about a fifteen-minute walk from Chowrasta and the Mall. Unlike most Darjeeling heritage hotels, which run to a handful of room types, this one spans nine categories across several named wings — Campbell, Orchid, Anderson — reflecting how the property has expanded building by building rather than being designed as one block. Heritage Rooms and the Lloyd's Cottages, nearer Observatory Hill, keep the older character with fireplaces and older joinery; the Executive categories are newer and plainer. Darjeeling town is roughly three hours from Bagdogra or NJP. This is a bigger, more resort-like operation than the Windamere or Elgin properties in town, with more organised service and less eccentricity. Good for families or groups wanting a range of room types and reliable facilities in one place; not for anyone chasing the single-building intimacy of a smaller heritage stay.
