Goomtee's retreat is built around the Bara Bungalow, put up in 1899 by planter Henry Montgomery Lennox on the Kurseong side of the Hill Cart Road. After the estate changed hands post-war it briefly housed Nepal's Rana family before the Kejriwal family took it on by the 1950s; the retreat keeps that lineage in four Heritage Wing rooms — Family, Explorer, Rose and Rajni Suites — each with wood floors, fireplace and garden access, plus three plainer rooms in a 2022 Executive Wing. It sits at about 1,265m near Mahanadi, on the toy-train line, 8km from Kurseong town, ninety minutes from Darjeeling, under two hours from Bagdogra. All meals are included and the kitchen is strictly vegetarian, built around whatever the garden and market supply that day — no à la carte menu, no bar bill. A fireplace lounge, small library and gym round out a property with only seven rooms total. Good for a couple or small family wanting an intimate, all-inclusive tea-estate stay near the railway; wrong for anyone wanting menu choice or a larger group setup.
