Spice Village, a CGH Earth Experience
Kumily, Thekkady, Periyar Tiger Reserve
- Wildlife
- Mountain View
- Secluded
- Family
Built into a working spice garden at roughly 900–1000 metres in the Cardamom Hills, Spice Village is styled after the huts of the local Mannan tribe: thatched elephant-grass roofs, coir matting over stone floors, and cottages left deliberately without glass or air conditioning to keep them cool at this elevation. It sits a short walk from the boundary of the 925 sq km Periyar Tiger Reserve, so wildlife-oriented activities — bamboo rafting, guided treks with tribal trackers, spice-plantation walks — are the main draw rather than pool time. Evenings bring a campfire and cooking demonstrations built around the pepper, cardamom and clove grown on-site. Good for travellers genuinely interested in wildlife and plantation life; not for anyone wanting resort polish, nightlife, or hot weather.
